Mr. Kolawole Gafaru and Otunba Arogundade, members of Lagos State Taxi Drivers  Association and Cab Operators have sent a ‘save our soul’ to the police authority.

The two drivers had alleged that some policemen in mufti came to the association’s  motor park at Iyana Oworo recently to arrest them without mentioning their  formation.

One of the drivers said, “we were at the park on Thursday afternoon when we saw some  men who identified themselves as Policemen but refused to disclose their formation.  They said they were at the park to arrest the two of us.

“We did not follow them since they did not get our names right and because they  refused to mention the formation that they came from. Since their identification  could not be ascertained, we refused to follow them. We are now appealing to the  police authority as we are not sure of our safety.”

The taxi drivers said though they were at loggerheads with the association’s  executive over the way members are being treated, but that should not have  degenerated into a situation where their lives would by threatened.

They said the Area ‘H’ Command, Ogudu, Lagos State, has being briefed about the  development, but denied involvement.

Barrister, Segun Aka Bashorun, vice chairman, Kosofe Local Government Area, Lagos  State who condemned the incident said he will use all resources at his disposal to  fight and unravel those behind the arrest.

According to him, “any police who refuses to identify himself and his station and  wants to arrest people is just like using policemen to settle personal scores.

“Refusal to identify yourself and the police station you are attached when want to  arrest someone is a form of terrorism. This is unfair, the matter has been passed on  to a human rights group to look into. We shall ensure that everyone behind the act  of illegality will be fished out.”
