Swimming: Lagos Set For Accer Tourney

In its bid to do well in the swimming event of the 17th National Sports Festival scheduled to hold in River State, Nigeria, the Lagos State Sports Council, LSSC, has taken a giant stride towards developing swimming in the state.

The council has concluded arrangements to stage a one-day swimming competition tagged The first Accer Lagos State Open Swimming Competition this Friday at the Olympic Size Teslim Balogun Stadium’s swimming pool.

Channel IT Nigeria Limited, a partner of the world leader in computer manufacturing, Accer, would power the event.

The championship, which is expected to bring together top swimmers in the state, will feature 24 events in both the male and female categories. There would also be relays, with the best swimmers in both categories going home with products from the sponsors.

During a press conference to herald the event held at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Complex, Rowe Park, Lagos State, Nigeria recently, Chairman, Lagos Swimming Association, Samuel Jesimiel, was optimistic that the joint venture would bring a new lease of life to swimming in Lagos.

“The competition will be an avenue to prepare the state for the National Sports Festival coming up in June and to discover new swimmers,” Jesimiel said.   “I believe this partnership shows that Accer loves Lagos State and I hope its foray into sports will enhance the development of sports in the state.”
