26 Suspected Movie Pirates Arrested

Top movie marketers and producers in Idumota area of Lagos Island, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, this morning arrested 26 suspected movie pirates.

The marketers moved from shop to shop to smash the syndicate when they were interrupted by a team of policemen led by the Area Commander of the Area ‘D’ Command, Mushin, Lagos.

This led to a spate of protest. But the rowdy scene was later brought under control by the intervention of Prince Jide Kosoko and Rasak Abdullahi.

The suspected pirates have been detained at the Zone ‘D’ Police Station, Mushin.

Items recovered from them include labels, movie jackets, flyers of films released yesterday like BRF, Adunola, Demlade, Orungbija, O-lewu and Jagunlabi. The lastest work of 9ice titled Basorun Gaa was also believed to have been pirated.

The combined team of film marketers and producers also claimed it traced the pirates to an office on Sebanjo Street, off Ladipo, Mushin, Lagos.

Speaking with P.M.NEWS during the raid, Chairman, High Waves Video Mart, Rotimi Aina-Kusoro said marketers recently lost a whopping N1 billion to the activities of pirates.
