Opobo Council Of Chiefs Assures Sekibo Of Support

The Opobo Council of Chiefs has assured the ACN governorship candidate in Rivers State, Dr Abiye Sekibo of the support of the Opobo people for the ACN at the 2011 polls.

Speaking through Alabo Emmanuel Oko Jaja, the Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom, HRM, Dandison Douglas Jaja advised the candidate and his party to maintain their peaceful disposition and be assured of his assistance.

In his response, Dr Sekibo said he would be very successful with the kind of permission and blessings he was getting from royal fathers, and urged them to condemn bad enactments such as the State Procurement Act which he described as a pool of corruption as it gives the governor freedom to spend 30 percent of the budget as he pleases, describing it as wrong and fraudulent and against the wishes of the people of the state.

He also said the 13 percent derivation fund belongs to the people and not the state government, and assured that ACN will ensure that the money is judiciously managed through the state Oil Mineral Communities’ Development Commission to be established by his administration.

Government under him, he also said will enact laws to involve traditional rulers in governance and give a pride of place to all stake holders in the state to air their opinions and contribute usefully to the development of the state.
