For allegedly tricking an 18-year old girl in order to have sex with her, a herbalist, Emmanuel Olawole, 38 has been sent to the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prisons, Apapa, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria on the orders of an Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court.
The herbalist claimed having sex with the victim will cure her of an undisclosed ailment.
The police charged him with obtaining sex from the victim (names withheld) under false pretence, an offence contrary to Section 358 of the Criminal Code.
The accused, a father of four kids, was alleged to have had sex with the victim, a student, several times after he told her that she will not be able to give birth because of her ailment.
He was also accused of duping the girl of N16,000.
Narrating her ordeal before the court, the victim said she met the accused at Igando area of Alimosho Local Government Area and he told her that he liked her stature and would like to use her photograph to advertise his product.
She accepted and followed him to his office. On getting there, she met two other men now at large who said she had problem in her private parts and if that problem was not solved, she will not be able to have a child. She claimed that she was hypnotised and she fell for the fraudsters.
“Emmanuel took me to a place and had rounds of sex with me and after that he put his fingers into my private parts and brought out a cowry to convince me he had removed something from my body,†she said.
Emmanuel ordered her to go home and bring money after placing her on oath not to tell anyone on what happened to her.
The sexual harrasment continued when the victim was taken to an uncompleted building to have another rounds of sex with the accused but a man suspected their movement and held Emmanuel.
“It was then that I rediscovered myself and started crying. I narrated what happened to the good samaritan and he contacted the police at Igando,†he added.
The accused was arrested and taken to the station where he allegedly confessed to the police that he was a businessman. When asked his type of business, he allegedly said OBT, meaning ‘obtaining by trick.’
He was charged with conspiracy and stealing, offences contrary to Sections 516 and 390 of the Criminal Code.
When the charges were read to him, he pleaded not guilty and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. S. O. Solebo granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
The matter has been adjourned till 9 May, 2011 for trial.
