NASS ELECTION: Police Beef Up Security In Kaduna

Following rumours of possible outbreak of violence, the Kaduna State Police Command has beefed up security in the state.

 

The police said they have concluded arrangement to collaborate with the military in order to maintain peace and order in the state.

 

The State Police Commissioner, Haruna John, who disclosed this at a press briefing today at the Independence Way, Police Officers Mess, emphasised that he specifically requested for the involvement of the military to help secure the state and polling units.

 

“We are not ready to take any chances this time,”.John said.

 

According to him, he got information that some political thugs aree planning to breach the existing peace in the state during the election.

The commissioner warned politicians and their supporters to desist from any act capable of undermining peace in the state.

 

He also stressed that for the avoidance of doubt, he has compelled all the political parties in the state to commit themselves by signing an undertaking to ensure the safety and security of the electorate and other citizens during the elections.

 

He maintained that the 8am to 5pm restriction of movement is still in force, except for those on election duty.

 

The police boss hinted that any voter that registered outside his or her area of residence should endeavour to be at the polling centres before 8am, stressing “failure to do so, such electorate risks disenfrachisemnt”.
