Nigerian Police said three people have died from the two bomb explosions in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State in the past two days.
One of the casualties, police said, is a police officer, while 15 others e wounded in the blast are still undergoing treatment. The twin bombs which claimed three lives were reportedly thrown at a tavern in the city.
“From our records the death toll has risen to three, which include a police corporal and two civilians who were at the tavern to have some drinks,” police commissioner Mike Zuokumor told AFP.
“We also had another bomb blast this morning targeting a police team. Two attackers on a motorbike threw a locally made bomb at the patrol van, seriously injuring a policeman on duty,” addaed Zuokumor.
The blasts in the city have been blamed on the fundamentalist Boko Haram islamic sect.
