Togolese Docked For Theft

Policemen from the Anthony Police Station, Anthony, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria have arraigned a Togolese, Doji Amosu, before the Shomolu Magistrate’s Court, Shomolu, Lagos for theft.

Doji Amosu was alleged to have conspired with others at large to steal a Blackberry phone on 26 May, 2011 at 7, Igbile Street, Mende, Maryland, Lagos.

He was arraigned on a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy, offences punishable under Sections 516, 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol .6, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

Count one of the charges reads: “That you, Doji Amosu and others at large on 26 May, 2011 at about 2pm at 7, Igbile Street, Mende, Maryland, Lagos in the Shomolu Magisterial District did conspire to commit felony, to wit, stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol.6, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

Count two reads: “That you, Doji Amosu and others at large on the same date, time, and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did steal Blackberry Bold 2, valued at N45,000 property of Arinze Ukaegbu and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol.6, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.”

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi admitted him on bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety.

She directed that the address and tax receipt of the surety must be verified.

The case has been adjourned till 1 July, 2011, for trial.
