Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said that the demise of the Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), Mr. Tayo Aderinokun is a loss of a national asset.

Atiku said in a statement by his Media Office in Abuja yesterday that the pioneering role of Aderinokun and the erstwhile MD of the bank, Mr. Fola Adeola has impacted positively on the banking and financial sector of the nation’s economy.

He paid attributes to Aderinokun who passed on in London on Tuesday for sustaining and expanding the new frontiers charted by the GTBank, which has assured for it a leadership position in the banking and financial sector.

In particular, Atiku noted that Aderinokun pushed the benchmark of the bank’s corporate governance practices to new and enviable heights.

“His stay with us on earth may have been short, but that could not be said of the huge impact he had on our socio-economic lives. As a pacesetter, he engineered novel ways of banking, which will be with us for a long time,” Atiku said.

He prayed for the repose of his soul and for strength to the Aderinokun family and staff and management of GTBank to bear the loss.

However, the former Vice President said that he has no doubt that the legacies of Aderinokun will be sustained because as a co-founder of the bank, the pioneers had put in place a strong system that will stand the test of time.
