Yacqub Abiodun Balogun, a member of the House of Representative representing Lagos Island Federal Constituency has stated that criminal activities could be curbed with the creation of state police.
Balogun stated this during a courtesy visit to the Area ‘A’, Lagos State Police Command, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, recently.
He said: ‘‘State Police is what my party, ACN have been advocating for long; this means each community or state will have its own police. By the time we is establish it, crime rate would be reduced.
“We should have state police in this country; that is true federalism. That is what is obtainable in other countries and Nigeria’s case should not be exceptional.”
He said he would use his position as a member of parliament to ensure that state police is established.
Balogun, a former Lagos State Head of Service, also said he would work towards improving the lot of the Police in the state.
He also said part of his programme is how to empower the youth in his constituency, which he said would help to reduce crime among the youth.
