Fashola To Reward Lagos Athletes

Team Lagos athletes that featured in the last KADA 2009 National Sports Festival will have cause to smile as the state Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, will on Thursday, 23 June give them monetary rewards.

P.M.Sports gathered that the award will not only be given to those who won medals but also those who did not win anything.

It was learnt that over N27million has been approved by Fashola for the athletes.

To that end, the Lagos State Sports Council has directed the athletes to pick forms at Rowe Park Sports Centre, Yaba, with their recent photographs between now and Wednesday for the processing of bank details for the collection of the largesse.

Chairman of the state’s Sports Council, Agboola Dabiri, commended the governor and the state government for the largesse, which he believes, will motivate the awardees to do better in the future.

Director of Sports in the Sports Council, Dewunmi Ogunsanya, disclosed that gold medal winners will receive N100,000; silver medal winner, N75,000 while bronze medal winners will take N50,000.

He said that at least 420 athletes who did not win any medal at the KADA Games will be given N20,000 each. “This is a kind gesture from Governor Fashola to encourage the athletes that feature for the state in any tournament. The governor has instructed that the athletes should be paid online.
