The Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, expressed delight and enthusiasm when he received the ‘Torch of Unity’ ahead of the 17th National Sports Festival.
Receiving the ‘Tourch of Unity’ at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, the state sports Commissioner for Sports, Iziegbe Anita Evbuomwan, who represented Governor Oshiomhole, pledged the state’s commitment to sports development.
He said the governor is planning to turn the state to a sporting state, and it is ready to provide sports facilities that will help the athletes prepare for future national and international meets.
“It is glaring that the state athletes are in good frame of mind to do the state proud at the national Sports Festival. We want to thank our governor for his support for the athletes and I hope that our athletes will not let us down,†he said.
He said the governor is optimistic that Edo State athletes will excel at the Sports Festival.
“This is the time the athletes need to justify what the government has done for them, by going to Port Harcourt, doing very well in their various events and come back with gold medals,†he said.
