Fashola Commends Team Lagos

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, has commended the state’s contingent to the 17th National Sports Festival, tagged Garden City Games 2011, despite being out of reckoning in the top five places in the Games.

Team Lagos finished ninth with 61 medals: 16 gold, 16 silver and 29 bronze medals.

A breakdown of the medals shows that Team Lagos won seven gold medals in boxing, two in taekwando and three in gymnastic.

In the 2009 Kada Games in Kaduna, Lagos won only seven gold medals

The newly-appointed Commissioner for Sports in Lagos, Waheed Enitan Oshodi, said the governor was proud of the state’s contingent for being good ambassadors.

He added that the governor took interest in the Games through the various reports he got since the beginning of the festival and he is happy with the positive reports about the Lagos’contingent.

Oshodi said the essence of the Games was to discover budding talents and promote unity across the country, adding that the stste would have loved to win more medals at the Games, considering its tremendous commitment to sports development over the years.
