Gov Ahmed Disbands Kwara United Board

This news may not gladden the hearts of supporters of Kwara United Football Club as the board of their darling club has been disbanded by the state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed.

P.M Sports gathered early today that the governor decided to disband the management board of Afonja Warriors, as the Ilorin-based club are popularly known, following the team’s dismal performance when they took on Rangers of Enugu in the WAFU Cup tie on Saturday.

Rangers International Football Club of Enugu recorded 1-0 away victory over Kwara United in the first leg, second round match of this year’s WAFU Cup competition.

Governor Ahmed was at the Ilorin Township Stadium to witness the match, but he was disappointed with the performance of the team, a situation that made him to leave the stadium before the end of the match.

The governor has directed the Commissioner for Sports, Toyin Olokooba, to oversee the activities of the club pending when a new board would be constituted.

The lone goal that handed the Antelopes of Enugu the win came in the dying minutes of the match after both sides had missed many scoring chances. This defeat has reduced the chances of the Afonja Warriors from progressing to the next round of the sub regional tourney.

The perfeomance of Kadiri Ikhana-led Kwara United in the current season of the Nigeria Premier League is poor. This team have been battling to escape relegation to the National League.
