In a bid to make sure that Lagos State students get the basic knowledge of sports in schools, the Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye, says the government will introduce sports related courses into the curriculum of primary and secondary schools in the state.

Oladunjoye said that the aims of the initiative, apart from serving as a way of impacting sporting knowledge on the young boys and girls, is also to curb acts of truancy and bad behaviours among the youth so that they will not only be good children of their parents, but good citizens of the state.

“We are trying to introduce sports into the psyche of the kids as early as possible in the primary school level . We want to keep them busy with sports related activities so they will not think of doing things that can lead them into trouble,” she said.

“It’s going to be a kind of two-edged sword initiative where the students will be taught the regular school works and at the same time learn more about sports both in theory and practical.”
