Tunde Taiwo of Handsworth Football Club of Sango Otta scored two goals in the Federation Cup before his team crashed out in the Round of 32. He spoke with SUNDAY AKINTOYE about his experience and future plans

How will you describe your experience in the Federation Cup?

It was a good one for me and my teammates. I put in my best in the competition, unfortunately we were eliminated in the Round of 32 by Dekina Dragon Football Club of Kogi State.

Which of the matches your team played was the toughest in the competition?

It was the match we played against Lobi Stars of Markurdi in the second round in Kogi State. I scored the winning goal to eliminate them. I was on rampage and tormented their defence until I got the lone goal for my team.

This shows that your team had an easy match against Lobi Stars.

It was not an easy match at all. After I scored the goal, Lobi Stars dominated the field. For 40 minutes, we were under pressure. They made several attempts to score, but thank goodness that we survived the pressure.

Your goal sent Lobi Stars out of the Federation Cup, would you play for the club if they are interested in you?

I am ready to play for Lobi Stars. After our match against them, some of their officials approached me, They said they have interest in me. They even spoke to my club’s manager. They said they will get in touch with me very soon.

Do you want to play in the Nigeria Premier League?

That is my dream for now. After I spent one season playing for Jespean FC of Benin Republic, I am ready to play in the league.

You scored the opening goal for your team before Dekina Dragon equalised and eventually won the match through penalty shootouts in the Round of 32 of the Federation Cup, how did you feel after the encounter?

It was a black day in my football career. It was very painful because we lost to a lowly rated team. I gave in my best in the match. You can believe that I scored the only goal for our team. It is a pity that I wanted to use the Fed Cup to sell myself, but we didn’t go far in the championship.

Where did you start your football career?

I played for Smart Strikers for almost eight years and left early this year. I am happy that after I returned from Benin Republic, I joined Handsworth FC. I have no regret playing for Handsworth. We won the Ogun State Challenge Cup and played in this year’s Federation Cup.
