Gunmen Attack Ogun PDP Chair, Kill Driver


The Ogun state Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chairman, Chief Dayo Soremi, escaped death by the whiskers when a four-man robbery gang attacked him and killed his driver instantly.

 P.M.NEWS findings revealed that the attack on the chairman occurred yesterday at about 8: 14 p.m. at Olodo along Abeokuta/Ibadan road in Odeda local Government Area of Ogun state on his way to Ibadan.

It was gathered that his driver identified as Mr Kunle Onigbinde, was unlucky as he was shot by the angry robbers who, according to the an eye-witness became furious when he attempted to escape after his boss’ Lexus SUV was blocked .

Confirming the incident to our correspondent, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Nickolas Nkemdeme disclosed that he did not know if the attack on the PDP Chairman had any political undertone.

Nkemdeme stated that the police have swung into action to investigate the incident, adding, “we are aware of it. They were attacked on their way to Ibadan. He was attacked by armed robbers who killed his driver and snatched his golden colour Lexus SUV. We are investigating the incident.”

Also, confirming the incident, the state Acting Secretary of the party, Mr. Semiu Sodipo ruled out any political undertone behind the attack, saying, “it was an armed robbery attack.”

He stated that based on the briefing he got from the Chairman, the robbery operation took place on Sunday around 8pm at Olodo area on Ibadan-Abeokuta road, while his boss was on his way to Ibadan.

Sodipo said the driver was shot dead while trying to make a U-turn to escape from the scene before they made away with other valuables belonging to the chairman which included his handsets and money.

A source told P.M.NEWS that the remains of the driver has since been deposited at a nearby private morgue.

Efforts to get the chairman proved abortive as he was not around in his residence and he could not be reached on phone as all his phones were stolen during the attack.
