Court Dismisses Objection To Stop Forgery Charge

A Lagos Chief Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Ikeja have dismissed a preliminary objection raised by Yusuf Adeniran Adeleke, 43, challenging charges of conspiracy and forgery preferred against him by the Police.

The court ruled that there was no substance in the objection and ordered that the charges be read to him as contained in the charge sheets.

The prosecution had alleged among others, that the accused with two others at large, sometime in the month of March, 2011 at the Lagos State High Court conspired to commit perjury and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 518 (6) of the Criminal Code, Cap. C.17, Vol. II Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The prosecutor further alleged that the accused and others still at large at the premises of the Federal High Court Lagos forged the signature of one Monsuru Taiwo by presenting himself to the Clerk of the court as Monsuru Taiwo.

The offence, the prosecution told the court was punishable under the Criminal Code.

Meanwhile, the accused had pleaded not guilty to the charges, while further trial has been fixed for November 9, 2011.
