Suspect Steals Gold Watches, Docked

The police in Lagos have arraigned a man, Ibrahim Shittu, 21 on a three-count charge of stealing before the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

He was alleged to have stolen two gold wrist watches, gold rings, some costume jewellery and six different handsets, property of Etumah Ehis Queen.

He was arrested by Inspector Adeyeye Ifedayo on 7 July, 2011 at Ikotun, Lagos with a gun and the stolen items after allegedly robbing the complainant.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, Roman Inuigbe, are punishable under Section 1(2)(a) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap. 398, Vol.XXII, Laws of the Federation, 1990 as amended.

Count two reads: “That you, Ibrahim Shittu and others now at large on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district whilst armed with guns and other dangerous weapons did steal seven sets of gold, two gold wrist watches, gold rings and some costume jewellery, valued at N900,000; six different phones with sim cards, valued at N80,000 and a sum of N50,000, property of Etumah Ehis Queen and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 1(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act, Cap. 398, Vol. XXII, Laws of the Federation 1990, as amended.”

No plea was taken and the case was adjourned till 25 August, 2011, for further hearing by the presiding magistrate, A. T. Omoyele.
