Father Beats Son To Death

A mechanic, Tunde Shitta, 35 residing at 33, Adeniyi Street, Itire, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, has allegedly beaten his 11-year old son, Taoheed, to death.

Tunde was alleged to have killed the boy by hitting him with a wooden stool on his head after he refused to go on errand for him.

The mechanic was later arrested and charged before the Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court on a count charge of murder.

The charge reads: “That you, Tunde Shitta, of 33, Adeniyi Street, Itire, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully killed one Taoheed Shitta, 11, by hitting him with a wooden stool on the head and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap. C17, Vol.11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.”

He pleaded not guilty to the charge but his plea was not taken.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. C. T. Adesola-Ikpatt, Chief Magistrate 1, ordered that he should be remanded in prison pending an advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions on the matter.

Adesola-Ikpatt also ordered that the case file be dupilcated and sent to the DPP.

The matter has been adjourned till 23 September, 2011 for mention.
