The police at Oko Awo Police Post, Idumagbo area of Lagos Island, Lagos State, Southwest Naira, have arraigned two salesmen before the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court on a three-count charge of forgery and stealing.

The police alleged that the accused, Etim Archibong Nelson, 28 and Ifeanyi Ogbonnaya Ude, 23, the inventory officers of Mo2YK Ventures Ltd., Lagos were arrested following complaints from their employer that they stole N4,441,113,97 from the company by forging entries in the stock card and goods released notes.

The offence, according to the charge, was committed on 2 August, 2011 at 14, Idoluwo Street, Lagos Island.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Collins Adams said the offences are punishable under Sections 516, 390(9) and 465 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 17, Vol. 11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

Count three of the charge reads: “That you, Etim Archibong Nelson and Ifeanyi Ogbonnaya on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did unlawfully falsified entries in your stock card and goods released notes as the inventory officers in MO2YK Venture Ltd. to the tune of N4,441,113,97.”

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate Oshodi Makanju admitted them to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties who must provide evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State government.

She adjourned the matter till 5 October, 2011 for mention.

The accused were remanded in prison on the orders of the magistrate when they could not perfect the conditions attached to their bail.
