Lagos LG Polls: Ayobo–Ipaja Stakeholders Reject Imposed Candidate

Stakeholders in Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area, LCDA, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, have rejected the chairmanship candidate purportedly imposed on them by the Osun State governor and other leaders of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the area.

P.M.NEWS reliably gathered that the stakeholders include: royal fathers, market leaders, community and political leaders as well as youth leaders made up of indigenes and non-indigenes.

It was learnt that the stakeholders openly rejected and turned back the allegedly imposed candidate, Sakiru Adisa Yusuf who has been going round palaces, markets and residence of leaders in the area begging for their support.

An ACN leader in the area who craved for anonymity said, apart from the bitterness of the people that the Osun governor and a few leaders could go as far as Osogbo to decide the fate of millions of people in Alimosho, the candidate himself had stepped on several toes in the past.

Obas and market leaders were said to have boldly told Sakiru Yusuf that they would not support his candidacy based on his alleged past disregard for royalty and the market leadership, apart from the fact that he was not the one the people of Ayobo-Ipaja endorsed.

A community leader, Chief Tade Ademola reasoned that the imposition directives from Osogbo, Osun state would not only polarise the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), in Alimosho, but also lead to voters apathy during the election, calling on Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party leadership in the state to quickly wade into the matter before it worsens.

He frowned at the situation whereby the candid views and recommendations of the royal fathers, political, market and youth leaders during their visits to Governor Aregbesola in his Lagos residence, Otunba Henry Ajomale at the State Party Secretariat and Deputy Governor, Adejoke Orelope – Adefulire in her house, over the candidate of the masses choice, were not respected.

P.M.NEWS learnt that most of the stakeholders do not believe that the imposition of chairmanship candidates in the entire Alimosho constituency was done by Aregbesola as widely speculated, asking rythorically, “how can the fate of millions of people in Alimosho be decided in far away Osogbo by just 18 people?”
