Lagos Sports Council Boosts Ajigbeda Girls School

Representatives of Lagos State in the ongoing Nestle Milo Secondary School Basketball Championship, Ajigbeda Girls Secondary School, Surulere, has appreciated the gesture of the Lagos State Sports Council towards their quest to win the girl’s event of the annual basketball event.

The school that has qualified for the semi final of the tournament, was bestowed with material and morale support yesterday by the Chairman of Lagos State Sports Council, Agboola Dabiri.

The team’s captain, Alli-Kemi Saidat, said the gesture would go a long way to boost their morale to lift the tournament’s trophy, stressing that they were in good mood to make the state proud.

The Director of Co- Curricular, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mrs. Babs Akinyeye, said the gesture would further encourage the team to perform better at the tournament, adding that she want the council to create a good relationship with the Ministry because the female basketball players are the future stars of the state.

She said the team comprises of eligible pupils of Ajegbeda Girls Secondary School who had been undergoing intensive training. She said their performance in the tourney showed that they are potential champions.

Dabiri said the council was thrilled with the team’s performance to reach the semi final. He disclosed that outstanding players among them would be invited to camp ahead of the forthcoming National Sports Festival, which Lagos will host next year.

Agboola noted that availability of sports facilities in the state made it possible for the school to qualify for the semi final, stressing that the investment of Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola in sports development is yielding positive result.
