World Weightlifting Tourney: Bassey Optimistic

Chief Coach of Weightlifting Federation of Nigeria, WFN, Patrick Bassey, is confident that Nigerian lifters will excel at the forthcoming World Weightlifting Championship slated for 5-13 November at Dome Disney Village in Paris, France.

Speaking from the team’s camp in Owerri, Bassey expressed his confidence in the team to come out with flying colours at the world tourney.

“Our major focus at the moment is the World Weightlifting Championship billed to hold in Paris from 5 to 13 of this month. Our lifters are very good and they will surely do the nation proud at the tourney,” said Bassey.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s hope of participating at the event is under threat due to the inability of the lifters and the coaching crew to secure their French visas.

The coach has called on the government and well-meaning Nigerians to intervene in the matter for the country not to miss the tournament.

“We plan to leave the country on the 3rd but we have not been given the French visas. We appeal to government and well-meaning Nigerians to intervene because the country cannot afford to miss the championship,” said Bassey.
