Eyo Festival: Traffic Restricted In Lagos

Traffic will be restricted tomorrow on Lagos Island, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria as the state holds the Eyo Festival.

Eyo Festival, the biggest festival in the state is being staged in honour of the late Pa Yesufu Abiodun Oniru, at the Tafawa Balewa Square, TBS.

The state Commissioner for Transportation, Comrade Kayode Opeifa said between the hours of 6 a.m.  and 7p.m. tomorrow, there will be traffic restrictions on some of the routes on the Island.

Opeifa disclosed that traffic would be restricted from the Third Mainland Bridge, exit to Adeniji Adele Road/ Idumagbo, exit to Bamgbose Street/ Lafiaji through Simpson Street by Sandgrouse Market and exit to Obalende/ Five Cowrie Bridge to Onikan Roundabout and Obalende.

According to him, vehicular movement to TBS through Onikan Round about and exit to Force Road from Onikan/ Obalende Bridge / Five Cowrie Bridge will  be restricted, adding that vehicular traffic to TBS from Awolowo Road, King George V Road and Island Club Road would be restricted at Onikan Roundabout.

For motorists  going to TBS through Carter Bridge (Idumota), Opeifa  said  vehicular movement inward Idumota/ Ereko/ Nnamdi Azikwe Street would be restricted at the top of Idumota bridge while movement to Dosunmu Street from Ebute – Ero would also be restricted by Ebute Ero Police Station and traffic will be diverted to 3rd Mainland Bridge.

Opeifa said that from Outer Marina, vehicular movement to Odunlami Street by Tantaliser and exit to TBS through Force Road would be restricted, while that from Inner Marina, all junctions leading to Broad Street would also be restricted.

The commissioner said that for those coming from Igbosere, Moloney and Obalende, vehicular traffic from Igbosere Road to TBS through Hawley Street would be restricted while those from TBS, Moloney Street and Araromi axis would be prevented from the Roundabout as well as from Obalende to Lafiaji by Turton Street.

The commissioner appealed to motorists in-bound TBS to connect car parks on Inner Marina Road through Marina Bridge and descend at UBA while those from Carter Bridge/ Idumota Bridge should connect the car parks through Leventis Bus Stop to UBA.

For vehicles from Eko Bridge, the commissioner urged them to go through Apongbon and UBA or through Leventis Bus Stop to UBA while motorists from Ozunba Mbadiwe/ Ahmadu Bello Way are implored to connect car parks on Inner Marina through Marina Bridge and descend at Cathedral Church or UBA.

He added that Lagosians driving from Ikoyi through Osborne Road were free to connect Inner Marina through Obalende/ Marina Bridge and descend at Cathedral Church or UBA.

Meanwhile, motorists that are Victoria Island bound could in the alternative take the 3rd Mainland Bridge to Osborne Road and connect through Alfred Rewane Road (old Kingsway road / Falomo Bridge).

“Similarly, motorists to Victoria Island could go through Eko Bridge – Apongbon and connect through outer Marina to Ahmadu Bello way or in the alternative; they could access Victoria Island through Carter Bridge/ Idumota Bridge, loop it down to Ebute- Ero/ Elegbata to Leventis and connect Ahmadu Bello way through outer Marina.

According to Opeifa, motorists that are Ikoyi bound should take 3rd Mainland Bridge to Osborne in order to avoid the restricted areas and connect their various destinations through Alfred Rewane Road in the alternative or they can as well follow Eko Bridge through Apongbon/ Outer Marina Road and connect Osborne Road through Obalende Bridge to Awolowo Road through Five Cowrie Bridge. He added that motorists could as well connect Osborne Road through Obalende.

He further stated thatmotorists could also ply Carter Bridge/ Idumota Bridge, loop it down at Ebute – Ero/ Elegbata to Leventis and connect Five Cowrie Bridge/ Obalende Bridge through outer Marina road.

Opeifa urged motorists to park their vehicles at no cost within the designated car parks along inner Marina where LAGBUS Shuttle buses would be available to transport them to TBS and back to the car parks after the event.

Markets on Lagos Island are expected to be shut for the Eyo Festival.
