Pro Star Coach Relishes Abesan Cup Title

Pro Star Coach, Akindutire Akindele, has expressed delight that his players played to instruction in the final of the Abesan Cup played on Sunday at the Teachers Training College, Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos.

Pro Star defeated Oniru United 4-2 in penalty shootout after a barren draw at  regulation time in a pulsating encounter watched by a  large crowd.

Akindele, who was elated that his team won the cup, said both teams played well.

He, however, noted that his team were technically better  than their opponents.

“It was a tough encounter for my team because we missed several chances which should have been converted at the regulation time. I thank God that my players did not disappoint me during the penalty shootout,” he said.

Coach of Oniru United, Seyi Olufemi, blamed his team’s defeat on ill-luck and praised his players for their performance throughout the tournament.

He congratulated their opponents for the victory but promised to win the next edition.

“We were not disgraced but we lost the cup due to penalty shootout. We came to this tournament to win the title but we were unlucky during the penalty shootout,” he said.

Match Coordinator, Tayo Adeyemo expressed happiness that the competition was a successful one and promised that the next edition will better organized.
