As parts of measures to stem corruption and extortion by council officials under the pretext of revenue collection, residents of Apapa/Iganmu Local Council Development Area, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, have been warned not to pay money to officials of the council.

Dr. Samuel Adesola Adedayo, chairman of the council gave the warning while addressing residents during the end of the year/St. Valentine’s party for widows and the less-privileged in the council area.

Adedayo urged them to always pay such monies to the council’s bank accounts, and not to hesitate to report any staff that demands cash from them.

The council chairman also warned residents of the danger of dumping refuse in the drains, especially as the rainy season approaches. He urged them to desist from patronising cart pushers, whom he said end up dumping the refuse in drainage channels, which results in flooding.
