Adopt-A-Talent Sports Programme: Boxing Coach Predicts Better Future

Adopt-A-Talent Sports Programme’s Boxing chief coach, John Mensah, has predicted a better future for boxers who are taking part in the Lagos State’s initiated programme.

Adopt -A-Talents Sports programme is a developmental programme initiated by Prince Wale Oladunjoye, Senior Special Assistant on Grassroots Sports Development to the Lagos State Government.

Mensah expressed satisfaction with the performance of the boxers in the training, saying if they can work harder, their future is bright in the game of boxing.

He disclosed that there are some boxers in the programme who are exceptionally gifted and if properly nurtured, they will go far in their chosen careers.

“Our boxers are good and committed to the programme. For them to win medals for Lagos in the last National Sports Festival held in Port Harcourt and School Sports in Calabar, it shows that the future is bright for our athletes in the game of boxing,” he said.

Mensah tipped one of his boxers, Abiodun Taiwo, as a potential future champion and urged him to remain focused if he wants his dream to come true.

He described Abiodun as an outstanding boxer among his peers in training and understands the rudiments of the game.

“I am impressed with Abiodun’s performance, both in training and competition. He has distinguished himself as a potential future champion. I see Abiodun representing Nigeria in the next All Africa Games and perhaps, in 2016 Olympic Games,” he said.
