Solomon Funkekeme, the Delta State Commissioner for Works, has said that the state government is committed to integrating rural and riverine communities to urban areas through infrastructural development.
He said this in a meeting he held with the leaders of Abari, a community in Patani Local Government Area of the state.
The commissioner said that government would ensure the provision of good roads which would improve the socio-economic lives of the people in the hinterland and be instrumental in the smooth evacuation of aquatic and agricultural produce to different markets where they are needed.
He charged the people of the community, especially those in positions of authority to do more so as to attract projects to the community.
He promised to bring the community’s shore protection problems to the attention of the relevant government department for necessary action.
Speaking earlier, Pastor Maggon Agidi, the spokesman of the community, lamented the consequences of the non-completion of the road on the development of the community.
He appealed to the state government to come to their aid in completing the road project.
While inspecting the road project, Hon. Funkekeme expressed his displearsure over the lack of work at the site.
