Ahead DSTV Basketball League: Umar Charges Referees On Good Officiating

President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, Tijani Umar, has charged the technical officials that include referees, match commissioners, statisticians, coaches and table officials to make sure they carry out their duties in the new season in good faith.

The 2011/2012 DSTV Basketball League season will dunk-off on Saturday with the first match in the Atlantic Conference involving Dodan Warriors and Comets of Lagos.

While speaking during a three-day seminar, put together by the NBBF ahead of the new season in Abuja, the federation boss told the over 100 participants that the development of the game in Nigeria depends on their good officiating as the umpires of the game.

Umar assured the technical officials of the federation’s readiness to expose them to international clinics in their various field of officiating.

“I want to plead with our technical officials to always be our good eyes. On the part of the federation, we’ll continue to organise seminars and clinics for our referees, match commissioners, statisticians and coaches for them to attain world class competency,” he said.
