Scrabble: Federation Ready For Adamawa Tourney

Nigeria Scrabble Federation, NSF, is set to kick start their programmes for the 2012 season with the Kwete Scrabble tourney billed for Adamawa State from 16-17 March.

The two-day championship which enters its third edition this year will be sponsored by His Royal Highness, Azaph Zadok of Numan.

Scrabble players from all over the country are expected to compete in the Masters and Open categories.

Speaking with P.M. Sports in Lagos, Secretary General of the NSF, James Eakyns, said the registration fee for the Masters category has been pegged at N4,000, while players to compete in the Opens category are expected to pay N2,000.

The NSF scribe disclosed that the tourney will serve as one of the qualifiers for the Africa Scrabble Championship that will hold in Zambia later in the year.

Eakyns further disclosed that the federation has concluded plans to hold this year’s National Scrabble Championship, NSC, from 6 – 8 April in Abuja.

Six players from each state will compete at the tourney that will also be used to select players to represent the country at the African championship.

The winner of the national championship in Abuja will be known as Nigeria’s champion. The current champion is Eta Karo from Delta State.
