Nigerian Weightlifting Federation, NWF, is getting the country’s lifters ready for the African Weightlifting Championship billed for 28 March – 2 April in Nairobi, Kenya. The African tourney will be used as qualifying competition for the Olympic Games, slated for London in July this year.
Head Coach of the federation, Patrick Bassey said Nigeria will present seven female and ten male weightlifters at the championship.
According to Bassey, the federation is heading for Kenya with a full team and the determination to win Olympic tickets for the country.
“Going to the African Weightlifting Championship with a full team of 17 weightlifters is an opportunity for us to feature in different weight categories. “This will give us the chances of winning a good number of tickets for the Olympic Games,” Coach Bassey said.
