We Need Federation’s Support—Savage

Assistant Coach of national wheelchair tennis team, Kayode Savage, has said that wheelchair tennis deserves more attention from the Nigeria Tennis Federation, NTF,than what it is getting now.

Kayode, who commended the nation’s players for qualifying for the Paralympic Games at the Kenya qualifiers with substandard wheelchairs and inadequate preparation, said: “I think wheelchair tennis in this country deserves more than what it is getting, if we look at how much the sport has done for the country. The sport has qualified Nigeria for the Paralympics before and they did it again this year, but what we got is little support from the authorities.”

He called on the NTF to come to the aid of the players and officials as they need good and modern wheelchairs to enhance their performance at the tourney, as this would justify Nigeria’s rating on the continent and the world.

“These players need modern wheelchairs. The players we defeated in Kenya played with modern equipment. If we could get such equipment, you can imagine what our boys will achieve even on the world stage,” Kayode said.
