The Lagos State Safety Commission, LSC, is putting finishing touches to this week’s World Safety Day, with the theme: Promoting Safety and Health in the Green Economy as a Strategy for Youth Empowerment and Economic Growth.
The World Safety Day comes up on 28 April, 2012. As part of activities to mark the Day, the National Industrial Safety Council, NISCN, Lagos State Chapter convened a meeting to harmonise the activities of NISCN and the LSC.
Activities scheduled for the celebration included Road Show by Safety Champions; World Day of Safety Seminar and Technical Session; Statewide Road Show and Exercise by Stakeholders and convergence of stakeholders at various motor parks in Lagos State to enlighten drivers on the dangers inherent in the use of hard drugs and drink-driving.
The coverage areas include green economy which is aimed at sensitizing the public on how to minimize environmental pollution and to identify organisations that are heavy on recycling and renewable energy.
Focus would also be on mechanical workshop and their attitude of pouring oil on the ground which damages the soil, carbon emission from vehicles, usage and regular servicing of generators.
Director General, LSC, Mrs. Odebunmi Dominga stressed the need for enlightenment and sensitization of the public and captains of industries on the usage of generator, which impacts on human safety.
