LASRAB champions digital records revolution in public service

The Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau (LASRAB) has commenced a two-day intensive capacity-building workshop for Heads of Records Units and archivists across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as part of efforts to strengthen information governance, improve records management and enhance public service delivery in the state.
The annual upskilling programme, themed “Strengthening Records Surveys and Information Governance for Effective Public Service Delivery,” brought together 50 records management professionals from various MDAs for practical training on modern records administration and archives management.
The workshop, which commenced at LASRAB House, Magodo GRA Phase II, Lagos, is designed to equip participants with contemporary knowledge and practical skills needed to improve records surveys, strengthen information governance and promote efficient management of government records in line with global best practices.
Declaring the workshop open, the Director-General of LASRAB, Mr. Amodu Razaak, underscored the strategic importance of effective records management in building an accountable, transparent and efficient public service.

He commended the participants for their commitment and professionalism, noting that the continuous training of records officers remains critical to ensuring that the Lagos State Public Service keeps pace with evolving standards in records and archives administration.

He also charged them to uphold the core values of the Lagos State Public Service while projecting the positive image of LASRAB through professionalism, integrity and dedication.
The Director-General encouraged participants to actively engage in the interactive sessions, practical exercises and knowledge-sharing activities designed to broaden their professional competence.
The workshop featured presentations by renowned experts in records and archives management, including the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of PWK Consultancy Services, Dr. Oseni Kolawole; Archivist at the National Archives, Ibadan, Mr. Austin Otigbu; and the Head of Archives, Ikoyi Club, Dr. Ifeyinwa Okafor.
The facilitators emphasised that archives remain indispensable tools for accountability, transparency and good governance, urging government institutions to embrace digital technologies to improve the accessibility, security and long-term preservation of official records.
They also advocated sustained investment in capacity development and the modernisation of records and archives management to align public institutions with international standards and emerging global practices.
Participants described the workshop as timely, noting that the training would enhance their ability to manage records more efficiently and contribute to improved decision-making, institutional accountability and quality public service delivery.
