Gymnastic: Lagos To Set Up Foundation

Chairman of Lagos Gymnastic Association, Adefemi Folusho, has expressed optimism that his association will set up a gymnastic foundation that the state will be proud of.

He disclosed this at the just concluded Gymnastic Inter-Clubs championship which ended last Saturday at the Mobolaji Johnson indoor sports hall, Rowe Park, Yaba.

Folusho,who appealed to the state government to sustain the programme, said the tourney was not only designed to discover and nurture athletes, but to also have a solid gymnastic foundation where gymnasts would be groomed for future challenges.

“This is the time to build a gymnastic foundation for our athletes. I have seen potential champions in the just concluded inter-clubs championship. We want to set up gymnastic foundation so that our athletes will have enough time to train ahead of future competitions,” he said.

Folusho also praised Governor Fashola for his support towards the sport in the state, saying that the tourney has enabled the association to discover athletes to be groomed for the IBILE Games, EKO 2012 and future national competitions.

Meanwhile, Adebisi Adebayo and Isa Tunrayo emerged winners of the inter -clubs championship.

Adebayo, who emerged winner in the male event thanked Governor Babatunde Fashola, for engaging the state’s athletes in a quarterly competitions. He said the quarterly tourney will spur them to excel in the forthcoming National Sports Festival in November.

In her own remark, Tunrayo explained that the tourney came at a time when the state’s gymnasts are hungry for regular competitions to be in good form ahead of the Eko Sports Festival since their counterparts in other states had begun preparations.
