Rangers win Enugu Fed cup

The Rangers International FC of Enugu on Sunday emerged champions of the 2012 Enugu State Federation Cup.

Rangers defeated their counterpart, Samba FC, also of Enugu, 1-0 with a penalty taken by Chikeluba Ofoedu in the 57th minute of the match.

With the victory, Rangers and Samba will represent the state in the national competition.

SKB of Enugu earlier defeated FBF of Enugu 3-2 through penalties. The game ended goalless in the regulation time.

Coach Afam Nnam of Samba said: “The match was an interesting one. I am impressed that my team played with Rangers. Two injured players in my team affected their performance in the second half. I am looking forward to produce the best players for trials abroad,” he said.

Coach Monday Odigie of Rangers said: “We had a good game. Rangers also played with a determined team. We did not have any course to underrate them.“I expected that this final would have been more colourful and entertaining,” he said.

Chidi Ofo-Okenwa, the Chairman of the state football association, commended the teams for their performance.“We are happy that two good teams have been selected to represent the state. We are looking forward to a more organised competition like this,” Okenwa said.
