Plans have been concluded by the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, NWF, to send seven male and seven female wrestlers to India on a training tour to ensure they perform well by winning medals for the country at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
This much was disclosed by Technical Director of the NWF, Daniel Igali on a radio programme yesterday.
Igali, who won gold medal for Canada at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, said the NWF and their counterpart in India had entered into an agreement early this year, that will enable Nigerian wrestlers who have qualified for the Olympics to go on tour of the Asian country.
“We intend to go on tour of India very soon as part of our arrangement to ensure that our wrestlers train to be in top shape for the Olympics.
“This is part of the deal we had with the India Wrestling Federation. It is our hope that the wrestlers will be able to compete in some tourneys and get used to the competitive nature of the Olympics,” said Igali.
