The police have arrested a 21-year old man, Bright Effiong, and charged him to court after he allegedly killed his 24-year old friend over a girl.
Effiong was charged before the Yaba Magistrates Court, in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, for the alleged murder of Chibuike Onyekachi following an argument they had over a girl whose identity is yet to be known as at the time of this report. It was gathered that Effiong had, prior to the incident, suspected the late Onyekachi of trying to woo his girlfriend with money.
This resulted in a brawl between them. It was during the fight that Effiong was said to have knocked down Onyekachi.
P.M.NEWS learnt that neighbours who witnessed the fight, which occurred at 20, Salami Bashorun Street, Ijeshatedo, Lagos, rushed Onyekachi to a hospital where a doctor certified him dead. His body has been deposited at the Sururere General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The police at Itire Division later arrested Effiong and transferred the matter the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos.
The presiding magistrate at the Yaba Magistrate’s Court, Mrs M. O. Taniwola, ordered that Effiong be remanded in prison while his file be sent to the Directorate of Public Prosecution for advice.
