'Amuwo Is Home Of Boxing'

The four amateur boxers that won medals for Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area at the just concluded Lagos State Sports Festival tagged ‘Ibile Games’ have described the local government area as the hub of amateur boxing in the state.

The four boxers, Ajala Nurudeen, Muri Balogun, Godwin Ambrose and the only female, Ruth Okenye, in separate interviews with Boxing In Focus opined that it was not a fluke that they won two gold and two silver medals at the festival.

Nurudeen, who won silver medal in the 60kg weight category said he is convinced that they would do better than the four medals in subsequent editions of the Games. He stated his readiness to represent Lagos State in this year’s National Sports Festival in November.

Winner of a gold medal in the 91kg, Ambrose, said the LG is a force to reckon with in the pugilist sport, stressing that in no distant time they would go ahead to rule the boxing world.

Okenye, who won a gold medal in the 64 kg weight category, urged the LG Chairman, Ayodele Adewale, to do more for boxers in the area by upgrading facilities in their gym as it is the only way that they can be ahead of their peers.

Chief Coach of Amuwo Odofin LG to the Games, Femi Sholanke, said that the boxers from the LGA gave good account of themselves.

stating that their target was to have a clean sweep of all the medals at the game adding that they would achieve that aim in subsequent editions of the games.
