Lagos Island Club Crisis Deepens

The crisis rocking Island Club, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, this morning took a different dimension as Chief Ajibola Aribisala, SAN, representing the club was abused by one of the members, Mr. Moses Oniyo.

Oniyo was raining abuses and curses on him and threatened to tear the gown Aribisala was wearing.

The intervention of another senior advocate, Tayo Oyetibo and security men guarding the court prevented Chief Aribisala from being physically molested.

When the case instituted by a member of the club, Tunde Oduwole against Island Club and five others came up, Oyetibo representing the plaintiff, told the court that a summon was issued by the Deputy Registrar of the court to Prince Ademola Dada for him to appear before the court today on the allegation that he attacked the bailiff of the court, and that he was in court this morning but left before proceedings started.

Ademola Dada’s lawyer, Mrs. Omohase Okpara told the court that he was in court on 6 June, but the court did not sit and today he was in court but he was asked to leave because of an attack of high blood pressure. So in view of this, he did not disobey the court order.

The presiding judge, Justice Okechukwu Okeke said the court has to protect its sanctity, adding that the court had to listen to him and consequently, Justice Okeke adjourned the matter till 18 June, 2012.

It was after the court proceedings that hell was let loose.
