Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has ordered the immediate demolition of all the structures under the high tension cable on the Apata-Bembow Road in Ibadan where no fewer than six persons were electrocuted on Monday morning.
The governor, who gave the order on Tuesday when he paid a sympathy visit to the affected market in Apata, Ibadan, said that trading under high tension cable constituted great danger to the lives of both traders and buyers in the market.
Represented by his deputy, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo, Ajimobi urged the traders at the market to cooperate with government by vacating the area to avoid another occurrence.
He directed the Chairman of Ibadan South-West Local Government Council, Mr Taoheed Adeleke, to find another suitable place where the market serving the people of the area would be relocated.
The governor also directed the council to replace all the cables connecting the area to the main PHCN poles and ensure that electricity was restored back.
He commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives in the incident and prayed for the repose of their souls.
The local government Chairman said that his council was working hard to put an end to future reoccurrence of such disaster, promising that the surviving victims of the incident, who are currently receiving treatment in hospitals, would have their medical bills paid by the council.
