Team Nigeria Off To London Tonight

The last batch of Nigeria’s contingent to the 2012 Olympic Games will leave the country tonight.

P.M.Sports gathered that some members of Team Nigeria left the country last night, while more of the country’s contingent are scheduled to hit London aboard the British Airways at 11:30pm tonight.

The Public Relations Officer, PRO of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, Tony Ubani, disclosed that Team Nigeria are set for the Olympics, which will begin on 27 July.

He said Team Nigeria are heading straight to the Surrey camp in London, where they will continue their preparation for the Summer Games before they will officially move to the Games’ Village.

Meanwhile, speaking at a colourful ceremony attended by some members of Team Nigeria yesterday in Lagos, the Minister of Sports and Chairman, National Sports Commission, NSC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, who represented President Goodluck Jonathan, charged the team to strive for excellence without relying on performance-enhancing substances.

“Please, those of you who are here should tell those who are not here that Nigeria don’t want any medal tainted by drug.

“We want to win medals at the Olympics fair and square and the President Jonathan  is urging all of you to steer clear of banned drugs. On behalf of the federal government of Nigeria, I wish you all the best at the London Games,” he said.
