Amaechi gives cars, cash to Dolphins, Angels

Rivers state Governor, Mr Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi on Monday presented cars and cheques to players and officials of Dolphins and Rivers Angels football clubs for winning league titles in the 2010/2011 football season.

Dolphins won the Premier League title, while Rivers Angels won the female league title in the 2010/2011 season.

Amaechi presented the car keys and cheques for N1 million each to the coaches of the two teams and a car key and cheques for N500,000 to each player of the teams.

He said he was happy fulfilling a promise made to the Dolphins and Rivers Angels teams and added that the gesture was aimed at making the teams win more laurels for the state.

The governor urged Dolphins to work hard and retain the league trophy by closing the gap between them and the current season league leaders.

He said his administration would reward outstanding sportsmen and women who had done the state proud.

In his speech, the Commissioner for Sports, Mr Fred Igwe, said Dolphins and Rivers Angels did the state proud during the 2010/2011 football season.

He said Rivers Angels, in particular, had 21 players in the female national team, the Falcons and Falconets.

Dolphins Manager, Mr Stanley Eguma, commended Amaechi for the gesture and added that the teams would do their best to get good results.

He promised that Dolphins would work harder to retain the league trophy and appealed to the governor to provide cars for the Dolphins and Rivers Angels to assist them travel for their matches. (NAN)
