A 20-year old man, Ogunma Sunday, has been arrested by the police and charged before Cele Magistrate’s Court in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, for allegedly impregnating a 17-year old girl (name withheld) and refusing to marry her.
He claimed that their agreement was to sleep with her and not for her to get pregnant for him. Therefore, he would not marry her as demanded by her family.
He is now cooling his feet prison for his failure to marry his teenager lover.
Sunday reportedly had sexual intercourse with Justina at 18, Akintola Street, off Martins Street, Olosha Mushin and she became pregnant.
P.M.NEWS learnt that when Justina’s parents knew of her pregnancy and informed Sunday, they asked him to take full responsibility by marring her.
Sunday reportedly admitted that he slept with her and gave her money and there was no time they agreed to marry each other or that she would get pregnant for him.
He, therefore, rejected their demand.
The matter was reported to the police at Area ‘D’ Command, Mushin and Sunday was arrested and charged to Cele Magistrate’s Court, Lagos.
The Imo State-born Sunday is facing a three-count charge of having carnal knowledge of the teenager, penetration and refusal of pregnancy.
The police prosecutor, Mr. Ayorinde told the court that the offence Sunday committed was contrary to and punishable under Sections 261, 260 and 166 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria.
Sunday pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.
The presiding Magistrate, Mr. D. T. Olatokun granted him bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties each in like sum.
The matter has been adjourned till 16 September, 2012 for mention.
Meanwhile, Sunday was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri Lagos until he perfects his bail conditions.
