The Plateau Police command on Wednesday confirmed the killing of two persons in two separate attacks by gunmen on some villages in Barkin-Ladi Local Government of Nigeria’s volatile Plateau state.

Mr Abuh Emmanuel, the Command’s spokesman, said in Jos that one of the attacks took place on Tuesday in Raku village where one Danjuma Adamu was killed in the bush where he had gone to fetch firewood.

“In the second attack, gunmen opened fire on two women, who were just standing outside their compound in Sho village.

“One of the women, Ruth Emmanuel, later died at the hospital, while the other victim, Helen Samuel, is still on admission in an undisclosed hospital.’’

Emmanuel, however, advised people to go about their normal duties as security had been beefed up in the area, but added that everyone must always be on the alert.

“The Command will also be very happy to receive more information from the public that will help the quest to rid Plateau of criminals and terrorists.’’

The Police spokesman also advised journalists against the rush to publish rumours, pointing that such unconfirmed tales had the tendency to only worsen the situation.

“Our friends in the media must always make efforts to confirm whatever they are told; we are working together and should be able to exercise some caution in the common interest of the public.’’
