Lagos Eyes Medals At Festival

As the minutes tick away on the countdown for the coming National Sports Festival slated for November, Comm. for Youth and Sports in Lagos State, Enitan Oshodi, has affirmed his belief in Team Lagos to rake in more medals in the boxing event than they did at the Garden City Games held in Port Harcourt, River State.

In a chat with P.M.News, Oshodi expressed confidence in the boxers to surpass their astonishing feat in Port Harcourt. “I have instructed the chairman of the Lagos State Amateur Boxing Association and the coaches that I expect a clean sweep of gold medals this year. I know that the target will not be difficult for them to meet if we consider the fact that they almost did it in Port Harcourt in the last edition of the games,” said Osodi.

He said: “I told the officials that the entire boxing lovers in the state expect them to improve on their tally of seven gold medals, which they won in the last edition. I believe that we can double our gold medals this time by winning 14 in this edition.”

Osodi said further that the state has abundant young boxing talents and experienced coaching crew, who are able to do the state proud at the games.

“I don’t think the state is asking for too much by demanding 14 gold medals in the boxing event alone. I believe that we have the boxers and the coaches who can do this for the state.

“The fact that we are the host state will also be an advantage for the boxers. The pugilists will no doubt feel at home fighting in the presence of the crowd,” he said.
