Enugu Budgets N69m For Sports Festival

The Enugu State Government is to spend N69 million in preparing the state’s contingent to the forthcoming Eko 2012 National Sports festival holding from 26 November  through 12 December in Lagos, the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN reports.

Chuks Ugwoke, the Commissioner for Information, explained that the money would cover expenses during the zonal qualifiers in preparation for the festival and to carter for the athletes during their one month camping and training.

He said the council also approved N67 million for the construction of outdoor facilities at the Enugu State Sports Council to promote and encourage sporting activities among the people.

The commissioner said approval had also been given for the payment of counterpart fund owed by Enugu State since 2009 for Fadama III agricultural programmes.

“In keeping with government resolve to ensure access to qualitative and affordable health care to the citizenry, council approved the sum of N463 million for the renovation, upgrade and construction of 68 health centres and staff quarters,’’ he said.
