“We are set to roll for the 12th Governor’s Cup and other things being equal, the tournament will serve off on 13 October. All the sponsors have been responding, we have the full backing of the Nigerian Tennis Federation, the Lagos State Government is fully supportive and this time round, we’ll be expecting a higher number of participants from at least 55 countries.”

Prince Oladunjoye, who is the Senior Special Assistant on Grassroots Sports Development to Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, also spoke about the possibility of staging a Junior Governor’s Cup before the main competition.

“The Junior Governor’s Cup, which is aimed at giving young boys and girls of U-14, U-16 and U-18, the privilege to go to the J. Ferrero Academy in Spain, is still likely to hold as we’re still trying to work out the modalities.

“Ferrero, who retired from tennis early due to injuries, himself will be in the country before the finals of the Governor’s Cup, to have a chat with the players and also to give them some tips on how to play the game,” he said.
