Governor's Cup: Top seeds ousted

Upsets were recorded in the ongoing Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship Thursday, as tournament’s number one and two players were shown the exit door from the first leg of the ITF approved pro circuit.

Egypt’s karim- Mohammed Maamoun beat top seed in the Men’s Singles, Slovak Kamil Capkovic in straight sets of 6-4,7-5.
Maamoun, who is tournament’s 8th seed got the best out of Capkovic, who said he is in Lagos, Nigeria to defend the title he won last year.

In other results of the quarter final matches played Thursday at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, Women’s Singles top seed, Grand Slam player, Russian Nina Bratchikova was stretched to her limit by a rookie and wild card player from Madagascar, Zarah Razafimahatratra, who she managed to beat in 6-7(1), 6-1, 6-3 match.
South Africa’s Chanel Simmonds defeated Chinese Jia-Jing Lu 6-0,6-1, Conny Perrin of Sweden beat Russian Alexandra Romanova in straight sets of 6-0,6-2, while Cristina Dinu of Romania defeated Valeria Patiuk of Israel 6-1,6-2.
In the Men’s Singles, Egyptian Sherif Sabry defeated Alessandro Bega of Italy 6-1,6-4, while Japanese Kento Takeuchi defeated Alessandro Petrone 6-1,6-3.
